Here is the part the category tends to gloss over. “1000mg black seed oil” describes the weight of oil in the softgel. It says nothing about how much thymoquinone that oil contains — and that figure varies substantially with seed origin, growing conditions, harvest timing, storage and, above all, extraction method. Two products with identical front-of-label milligrams can differ several-fold in the constituent that prompted the research interest in the first place. Weight of oil is an easy number to print; concentration of the active is the harder one to guarantee.
Thymoquinone sits in the volatile fraction, which makes it vulnerable to heat and harsh processing. Mechanical cold pressing is slower and yields less oil than solvent extraction, but it keeps that fraction intact. Molecular distillation then separates contaminants and off-notes under vacuum at low temperature — a purification step, not a concentration trick. Neither process invents thymoquinone that was not in the seed; they determine how much of it survives into the bottle.
Standardisation means assaying each batch against a specification before encapsulation, then declaring the result.
